Kenyona Davis, founder and principal fractional leadership expert, was no stranger to the challenges of leadership. Having spent years building substance use and mental health facilities navigating the complexities of healthcare systems, she often found herself grappling with a familiar issue: the high cost and scarcity of top-tier leadership talent.
Despite her clinical expertise and innovative approaches, Kenyona observed a recurring pattern across organizations—many small to mid-sized businesses were struggling to afford and retain quality leaders. Without strong leadership, these organizations faced stagnant growth, staff burnout, and limited impact. She realized there was a critical gap that needed to be filled, and the idea for Advisory Team Consulting Group was born.
A Vision Rooted in Experience
Kenyona’s journey into fractional leadership wasn’t accidental—it was the result of years of experience as a leader herself. After earning her Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University, she founded and operated several substance-use/mental health facilities. Her early career in IT and telecommunications gave her an edge in incorporating technology into her operations, saving time and resources while maintaining high-quality care. She experienced similar issues working in leadership for MSSPs and managing IT/Technology for several companies. These same complexities were prevalent as she worked in hospital settings, business consulting firms, and providing business development and program management across multiple business sectors.
As these facilities grew, Kenyona found herself in a pivotal role: scaling businesses, optimizing processes, and mentoring leaders. Yet, she saw many organizations falter because they lacked the leadership resources necessary to thrive. Smaller businesses couldn’t afford full-time executives, and existing leaders often felt overwhelmed by the demands of growth and change.
This realization sparked the foundation of Advisory Team Consulting Group—a firm designed to provide fractional leadership services, offering businesses access to experienced leaders on a part-time or consulting basis. The model would allow organizations to tap into top-quality expertise without the full-time cost, enabling them to scale effectively and sustainably.
The Birth of Transformational Empowerment Leadership (TEL)
As Kenyona worked with businesses, she identified another critical gap: many organizations lacked not only leadership but also the tools to navigate change and empower their teams. From her own experience leading diverse teams through periods of rapid growth, she developed a leadership paradigm: Transformational Empowerment Leadership (TEL).
TEL was born out of Kenyona’s belief that leadership isn’t just about strategy—it’s about empowerment.
